November 5, is National Doughnut Day! Actually, it’s one of two national doughnut days … the other is in June, and we think if any tasty treat deserves two days, it’s the doughnut! The June day of doughnut honour was created to honour volunteers, the “doughnut lassies”, who baked and served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. The November date is less clear, though it is believed that due to its timing so close to Remembrance and Veteran’s Day it was likely created by a bakery to celebrate veterans. No matter the origin story of National Doughnut Day, a day dedicated to doughnuts, is more than enough reason for us to celebrate these doughy, deep-fried circles of goodness. But when we learned that the days were created to honour volunteers and veterans, we were even more inclined to take a break and celebrate the day.
Here are 6 spots in Surrey to raise (and eat) a doughnut in celebration!
