Breakfast
Surrey doesn’t have a lot of brunch places, so I was super happy when Jasna Cafe (10320 Whalley Boulevard) opened. They are open from 7am – 3pm, so if you work in the area like I do when you can pop in for breakfast before starting your day. The service is quick and friendly and the food (the classic breakfast fare you’d expect) is always tasty. The eggs Benedict is delicious and comes with the best hash browns. Their fruit salads are also amazing and so, so fresh!
Lunch
My favourite place to grab lunch is La Conquistadora (10511 King George Boulevard), a little mom and pop shop ducked away in a tiny strip mall that serves authentic Mexican and El Salvadorian food. It’s one of those hidden gems that you’d never discover unless someone tipped you off. (Me, in this case!). I can’t even pick a favourite menu item, but I will say their burritos are huge and their cheese pupusas are amazing. They also do great chicken tacos, beef tostadas, mole enchiladas and chili rellano.
Dinner
If you’ve never had African food Taste of Africa (10663 King George Boulevard) is the place to try it. On the other hand, if you love African food, you also won’t be disappointed! It’s another hidden gem, with limited seating and decor that isn’t anything fancy, but the owners and super sweet and friendly and the food is delicious. The flavours in every dish are divine, but I personally love the chicken with jollof rice and plantain.
Dessert
I’ve put Afghan Bakery (13748 104 Avenue) down as my favourite place for dessert, but don’t be fooled, because they also do delicious shawarma platters and donairs. If you haven’t noticed, I love little hole-in-the-wall treasures that only locals know about. Well, this one is no different. If you do order a main meal first, make sure you leave room one of their amazing desserts. My favourite is the super sweet and mouthwatering baklava!
