Canada is celebrating a huge milestone this July 1; 150 years as the True North, Strong and Free. And what exactly do you give to a century-and-a-half old nation to ring in the big day? One huge party, that’s what!
Surrey is known for its legendary family friendly birthday bash held annually at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre, but this year, we’re kicking it up a notch. As Surrey gears up for the big day, we’re making sure you know all about the performers, food options, and family friendly things to do on the big day.
Over 20 performers will hit two stages over the course of July First, ranging from local acts to international sensations. So who’s performing when and where? We have all the details for you below.
Canada150 Stage
Kicking things off on the Canada150 stage is Sam the Astronaut at 11:30am. Start your Canada Day celebrations with an up-tempo performance of pop, rock, and hip-hop so you can get your grove-on to some sweet tunes.
Following up is Vancouver-based band Best Night Ever at 12:30pm. With a blend of dance and soul music, the dance party continues with their set of original songs.
At 1:15pm, Vancity Bhangra hits the stage for a vibrant and entertaining dance performance.
At 2:00pm on the dot, catch RupLoops, an exploration of intercultural work and sounds through an interactive performance, followed by performances by Petie Chalifoux, Madalaine McCallum, Fawnda Bullshields, and Shelton Vincent Morin for their Indigenous Showcase at 3:00pm.
Rocking the stage at 4:00pm is Big Shiny Tunes. Celebrating every 90’s kids favourite CD compilation aptly named Big Shiny Tunes, rock along to some of the best rock-hits from this rock’n’roll cover band.
Closing out the Canada150 Stage performances is Good For Grapes. Local heroes Good for Grapes grace the stage at 5:00pm to serenade the crowd with their hits like The Ropes, Skipping Stone, Time and Time Again, and more!
Main Stage
Start off your day with some #KidApprovedBC fun! Matt Henry starts off the Main Stage festivities at 11:00am with his charming juggling act, followed by Music with Marnie at 12:00pm. Music with Marnie gets the kids moving and grooving, with high energy and colourful puppets, this is THE performance for kiddos.
At 1:00pm the Indigenous Showcase from the Canada150 Stage heads over to the Main Stage, followed by opening ceremonies at 1:30pm.
Shiamak’s Vancouver Dance Team brings a fusion of Bollywood, contemporary, and hip hop dance to the Main Stage at 2:30pm, don’t miss out on the colourful fun!
A musical and dance spectacle by Aché Brasil graces the Main Stage at 3:30pm that showcases Brazil’s cultural diversity.
At 4:30pm One More Girl bring their Canadian Country act to the big stage. Hailing from the West Coast, these girls not only have incredibly voices, but also a stage presence that will catch the attention of any music fan.
5:30pm is sultry hour at the Main Stage, as Sway features hits by Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Van Morrison, and more!
Legendary Canadian act Chilliwack performs at 6:30pm, with a long set-list filled with hits like My Girl, I Believe, and Crazy Talk.
Canadian hit-makers Magic! are up at 7:30pm with their laid-back fusion of reggae, pop, and R&B. Stick around for their big hits Rude and Lay you Down Easy.
Headliners Hedley are up at 9:00pm to bring the house down! These Canadian rockers have released hit after hit, and will be right here in Surrey to wish Canada a very happy 150th birthday.
DJ Flipout closes out the event at 10:15pm. Enjoy a fun mix of today’s best hits spun by local radio host at 94.5 Virgin Radio.
