Get in touch with the environment without having to load up the car with tents and bear spray. Without leaving Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood, you can learn a ton about the ecosystems of British Columbia and how you can help maintain the natural beauty of our province.
Tynehead Hatchery
Start your day with something fishy! Entirely volunteer-run, the Tynehead Hatchery (16585 96 Avenue) in Tynehead Regional Park handles four species of salmon every year. They ensure that the Serpentine River is replenished and restocked with enough endangered species to sustain the ecosystem. You can choose to volunteer or to attend a workshop and learn all about the process of how they hatch and release over 250,000 fish each year.
Fresh Restaurant & Lounge
After getting your hands a little dirty, wash up and go grab some local food. Sourcing their ingredients from farms in the Fraser Valley, Fresh Restaurant & Lounge (15269 104 Avenue) is able to provide the freshest food while simultaneously supporting the environment and local economy. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and make for a great place to kick back with friends whether it’s to catch up or watch the game. It doesn’t get much better than knowing exactly where your delicious meal came from.
