Everyone enjoys a scary story at Halloween! And whether you want to attend the spookiest Halloween activities or prefer to stick to more sweet activities than spooky, here’s how you can celebrate the season of ghosts, goblins and graveyards this year in Surrey.

Candlelight Cemetery Tour

Bundle up and enjoy an informative tour with local historian Sue Bryant while she respectfully reveals the fascinating stories that lie beneath the headstones of the historic Surrey Centre Cemetery.

Haunting Tales, an Evening Full of Fright

Everyone enjoys a good scary story at Halloween!  Join the Beach House Theatre Society for Haunting Tales, an Evening Full of Fright! Strolling audiences will experience a ghost story tour like no other, with terrifying tales of murder, hauntings and legends full of creepy, crawly characters. This event is not for the faint of heart or young children! Join your ghostly host as he guides you around historic Camp Alexandra where you will learn some of the spooky goings-on in those beloved buildings, Along the way you will encounter legendary characters like Lizzie Borden and Jack the Ripper who will share stories that are sure to make your skin crawl. (ages 18+)

Outdoor Scarecrow Tour

Art’s Nursery’s annual scarecrow event has been transformed this year into a “Scarecrow Stroll”. Visit their 10+ acre nursery anytime between now and Halloween to enjoy a casual outdoor stroll amongst 60+ scarecrows and plenty of fall photo opportunities. Enjoy the beauty of nature and the creativity of their talented scarecrow building team! And if you love the scarecrows so much that you want one to take home, you can purchase your very own Scarecrow Building Kit.

The Bear Creek forest comes alive after dark with ghosts and ghouls intent on scaring you amidst creepy sounds and special effects. Favourite characters like Chainsaw Charlie are back and you might also run into the walking dead who roam the platform! The Scream Train is recommended for older children who can handle being scared.  The more timid passengers will love the Pumpkin Patch train as it travels through the decorated forest to the pumpkin patch!

Cougar Creek House of Horrors

Cougar Creek Garden Centre (formerly Potters Garden Centre) undergoes a Halloween transformation from a beautiful blooming garden centre to a frightening fusion of haunted houses and scream-inducing activities. 2021’s haunt includes two truly terrifying haunted houses: Devils Descent and the Death Valley Motor Inn. And back this year is the Escape from Incineration where you have 20 minutes to escape a “burning” building by solving puzzles and searching for clues. For the less adventurous, there’s a tamer version of the haunted houses with no live actors or animatronics and softer sounds that runs weekends from October 15 to 31.

Are you a skeptic or a believer? Join Paranormal Spectrum Investigations and Alexandra Neighbourhood House for an evening at historic Camp Alex. Spend a spooky evening as they share their experiences and reveal paranormal evidence gathered by their team from Camp Alex and other historic sites.

Pumpkin Patches
Get into the Halloween spirit and pick that perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin at one of Surrey’s expansive pumpkin patches. Pumpkin patches will be open at Hazelmere Pumpkin Patch (Sep 25 – Oct 29), Rondriso Farms (Oct 1 – 31, 2021) and Port Kells Nursery (Oct 1 – 31, 2021).
