January Events in Surrey

January is the time of the year to make things happen. We’re fresh on New Year’s resolutions, determined to make this year our very best. So we’re here to help you kick off the year with exciting events happening all over Surrey, BC!

Discovery Day
Surrey Nature Centre | 14225 Green Timbers Way

Bring the whole family out on January 3, from 10am to 2 pm, and kick start your nature adventure at the Surrey Nature Centre. Start your nature adventure inside the Sky Room stocked with books, puppets and natural materials and then head outside for a forest learning experience with a nature guide. Nestled beside Green Timbers Urban Forest, the Surrey Nature Centre is a place for kids and adults to explore nature right here in Surrey.

How Green is Your Muse?
Surrey Art Gallery | 13750 88 Avenue

The Filipino Music and Art Foundation pays homage to an all-time favourite inspiration: nature. Visit the Surrey Art Gallery until February 2 to view an exhibition of nature-themed artwork.  Both a celebration of nature and a plea for action to preserve and protect it, the exhibit features the expressive works of 12 emerging and established Filipino-Canadian artists.

The Shoplifters
Surrey Arts Centre | 13750 88 Avenue
Tuesday – Sunday, Jan 15 – 25, 2020

Meet Alma, a career shoplifter who prefers the “five-finger discount” over any senior citizen’s deal. When a grocery store theft goes awry, her elaborate life of petty crime is halted by an overzealous security guard and his good-natured mentor. You’ll be cheering for both sides to be victorious in this very funny portrayal of an awkward situation.  Presented by Arts Club Theatre Company.

The Late Christopher Bean
Surrey Little Theatre | 7027 184 Street
January 23 – February 22, 2020

Presented by Surrey Little Theatre, The Late Christopher Bean is a comedic play abut a family who rents a room to a struggling artist only to find out that his art may be posthumously valuable. Hilarity, misunderstandings and greed take centre stage as they gather the paintings that could sell for millions, while only the housekeeper seems to have genuinely appreciated Bean.

Birding Walks
Elgin Heritage Park | 13723 Crescent Road
January 18 | 9am – 11am

Enjoy views of the Nicomekl River while looking for shorebirds and other winter residents. Explore a variety of habitats as you walk through forest, meadow, and fresh- and saltwater marsh. The parking lot entrance is on the north side of Crescent Road, west of 136 Street.
