Local Love

Have you stumbled across our recently-published Food With Thought guide yet? It’s a good old fashioned hold-in-your-hands magazine with colourful pages chock-full of culinary content. Within its fancy pages is an article about the benefits of being a locavore. “What the heck is a locavore?” we hear you ask. Well, it’s simple really. A locavore is an individual who’s interested in eating locally. So, why become one? The article in our Food With Thought guide expounds upon the perks of eating locally, but we’ve summarised them below:

It helps the local economy
Keep the money within your community and watch it flourish! Easy as.

It feeds community
Eating locally opens you up to the people behind your food. Find your favourite places, become a regular, build a rapport… These connections help to build a sense of community.

It’s kind to the environment
Food that’s grown closer to home doesn’t need to travel long distances.
Decreased fuel use + less vehicle emissions = a smaller carbon footprint

It’s good for you!
Food that hasn’t been allowed to ripen naturally is lacking in nutrients. ( And non-local food is often picked before it’s ripe.)

So you’re sold on becoming a locavore, but now what? We know making any kind of lifestyle shift can be intimidating, but we’ve made it easy-peasy by listing everything you need to know below. You’re welcome!
