September Events in Surrey

Despite the wonderful warm weather that has been easing our transition in to fall, we know that cooler days are just around the corner! Soon it will be time to grab a sweater, order a pumpkin spiced treat and put on our socks (oh the horror) as the temperatures start to dip. The cooler weather doesn’t mean that we slow down though, in fact the fall is one of the best times of the year to visit Surrey and there are lots of fun, family-oriented events happening this September.

Fleetwood Festival
Fleetwood Community Centre | September 7

Celebrate over 20 years of diversity, culture and community pride at the annual Fleetwood Festival. The history of Fleetwood and its namesake are celebrated every year with this community-hosted festival, which includes lots of family fun activities, interactive booths, food and more. September 7 from 11am – 3pm at the Fleetwood Community Centre (15996 84 Avenue).

Birding Walks
Hi-Knoll Park | September 21

Surrey’s wetlands, parks, beaches, and built-up areas are home to hundreds of bird species. For nature-loving visitors seeking a casual eco-tour, birding walks are a great way to get some fresh air while taking in some amazing live scenery. While many species do fly south for the winter, eagles, falcons, herons, and owls have other tastes, essentially making Surrey’s natural spaces a year-round nature refuge! On September 21 head to Hi-Knoll Park and scan the air for flying swallows and other birds while exploring grassy meadow, marsh, and a wooded area.

Culture Days
Guildford Town Centre | September 28

Join the City of Surrey’s Heritage team, on September 28, at Guildford Town Centre to discover Surrey’s past as part of the 10th annual Canada-wide Culture Days celebrations. The Heritage Hangout will feature hands-on activities from the Surrey Archives and the Historic Stewart Farm. Try your hand at a Then and Now game, watch a slide show of archival images of the Guildford neighbourhood and see if you can Guess the Gadget.

Filipino Celebration Surrey
September 21 | Museum of Surrey

Visit the Museum of Surrey on Saturday, September 21 from 1pm – 4pm and celebrate Filipino culture with live performances and mouthwatering Filipino food.

This cultural celebration of diversity and inclusion will include a unique opportunity to learn tinikling, a traditional Philippine folk dance. Bring the kids for a Tagalog and English storytelling session, make a craft and take in a Slam Poetry performance from the Filipinx community.

After the dancing and festivities, enjoy free lumpia, a savoury snack made of thin crepe pastry skin (while supplies last), and the following food trucks will be on-site for lunch – Shameless Buns, Grandt Kitchen and Potato Corner.

Olde Harvest Fair
September 21 | Historic Stewart Farm

Usher the arrival of fall like the pioneers did back in 1888 with a good old-fashioned Harvest Fair. This free, one-day event held at the Historic Stewart Farm is a celebration of the harvest with food, neighbourly competitions, and live music and dancing. Enjoy a cup of warm apple cider while you watch Surrey’s re-enactment troupe, The Re-Enactors, transport you back in time.
