Surrey Guided Nature Walks

What’s there to do in Surrey, we hear you ask? We have one word for you: PARKS! Surrey features a huge array of different types of parks and adventure for everyone in the family. Many parks feature Guided Nature Walks, which are a great experience Surrey’s divers parks, and point out special areas of the parks and identify specific breeds of plants and animals you may not otherwise see. A Nature walk is the perfect way to take in all the beauty Surrey has to offer this summer while keeping cool under the shade of the forests. There are Nature Walks for all walks of life, from kid-walks to senior-walks and everything in between. Check out the list below for the walks closest to you this summer.

Surrey Nature Centre

Every Saturday from 2:00-3:00pm

Drop in for a weekly guided nature walk for all ages! The nature in bloom and animals in action change often, so be sure to visit frequently to truly experience the seasonal changes along the trails of the Surrey Nature Centre, and get to know the wildlife that call this place home.

Crescent Park
132 St and 26 Avenue
Saturday, July 8, 10:00 – 11:00am

Crescent Park Nature Discovery – for kids aged 5 and over! Release your inner creativity at this fun art-in-nature walk. Look up close at nature’s patterns and colours, watch a tree dance, paint with grass stains, and create your own masterpiece right in the forest.

Meet in the east parking lot, next to the playground.

Elgin Heritage Park
Crescent Road, between 136 Street and 32 Avenue
Saturday, July 8, 2:00 – 3:30pm

Visit the habitats at Elgin Heritage Park. Come out for a guided tour where land meets water. Travel across bridges, over wetlands, and look for eagles, ducks, muskrats and songbirds as you explore the amazing variety of wildlife this park has to offer. This walk is suitable for kids ages 10 and over.

Meet in the west parking lot, next to the park map kiosk.

Historic Stewart Farm

Friday, July 21, 1:00 – 2:00pm

This walk is for those aged 55 and up! Borrow some binoculars for birdwatching, check out the honeybee hives, and search for the owl who lives in the barn. Afterwards, take a rest on the shaded veranda of the farmhouse and enjoy other activities as part of Surrey’s Seniors in the Park program . This walk is about 500m on packed gravel with some gentle slopes.

Bear Creek Park

Wednesday, July 26, 1:00 – 2:00pm

Bear Creek Wildlife Walk – for Seniors! Search for songbirds, look for the eagle’s nest and take a peek in the creek – who will you see? Afterwards, relax in the shade and enjoy other activities as part of Surrey’s Seniors in the Park program. This walk is about 650m on flat packed gravel and asphalt.

Meet at the entrance to the gardens.

Bose Forest Park

Saturday, August 12, 10:00 – 11:00am

Bose Forest Park Discovery – for kids 5 years old and up! Get to know one of Surrey’s newest parks! Along the way, search for secret animal hiding spots and cross boardwalks over a cool stump.

Bose Forest Park

Saturday August 12 2:00 – 3:30pm

Get to know one of Surrey’s parks with your kiddo aged 10 or older! Walk along forest paths and boardwalks, and visit some highlights of this complex forest community, which includes a mysterious charred stump and a tree covered in fungus.

Friday, August 18, 1:00 – 2:00pm

A forested Walk – for Seniors! Look for the resident family of great horned owls and learn about nurse stumps and our local trees. Afterwards, take a rest on the shaded veranda of the farmhouse and enjoy other activities as part of Surrey’s Seniors in the Park program. This walk is about 500m on packed gravel paths which at times are narrow and uneven.

Bear Creek Park

Wednesday, August 23, 1:00 – 2:00pm

Bear Creek Wildlife Walk – for Seniors! As a repeat of the July 26th event, discover North Surrey’s oasis, with manicured gardens, creeks running throughout the park, and all sorts of wildlife. Afterwards, relax in the shade and enjoy other activities as part of Surrey’s Seniors in the Park program. This walk is about 650m on flat packed gravel and asphalt.
