The saying goes “birds of a feather flock together,” and if the saying is true, then we’ve got an unique pairing for you…
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Surrey’s notorious entertainment venue, The Flamingo, is back in a BIG way! From its glory days in the 1950’s and ’60’s as a venue for social gatherings, weddings, and dinner parties came a shift to a night-life venue in the 1970’s. From there, an era of adult entertainment ensued before the doors of The Byrd were shut for good. But The Flamingo’s story was far from over.
A new chapter has opened in 2018, a fresh start that has an old bird putting on new tricks in the form of hosting live bands, paint nights, and youth dances. A warm-welcomed departure from its previous incarnation, The Flamingo is all about supporting budding local musicians and uplifting Surrey’s arts and culture community.
With three venues: The Lounge, The Byrd, and a to-be-named stage, there’s a possibility of three shows going on all at one time. And with these venues available, there’s certainly NO time being wasted, as their events calendar is already filled with performances by tribute bands, fundraisers, and amazing community events.
Just like many great things, The Flamingo will be here for a good time, but not a long time. Plans are in the works five to six years from now to develop the site The Flamingo stands on into multiple high risers, as the North Surrey community continues its own metamorphosis. Where the Flamingo’s story will go from there, we’ll just have to wait and see!
