Light the Tree

Pack your Santa hat and put ‘Silent Night’ on repeat, we’re getting ready to kick off the season with Surrey’s annual Tree Lighting Festival on Saturday, November 20! This free, family-friendly event is filled with amazing light displays, a Holiday Market, and all things bright and merry. What’s in store at Surrey’s cheeriest festival? We’re glad you asked…

The Tree

One of the most magical aspects of the holiday season is all the beautiful bright lights. From intricate home-displays to streets lined with lights, there’s a certain glow that just warms your heart on a chilly evening. Now we’re not saying that the bigger the display, the more holiday spirit, but if that were the case, Surrey might just be the merriest city of all! At the centre of an immersive light experience stands Surrey’s 60-foot Christmas Tree. Decorated with giant holiday ornaments, lights and a star tree-topper, the tree also happens to be one of the largest in Canada! The tree will be lit for all attendees to experience throughout the day on Saturday, November 20, and will stay lit during the holiday season.

Bright Lights

Civic Plaza will come alive with immersive light experiences, including an 80-foot light tunnel, archways, giant ornaments, illuminated swings, photo opportunities and more. And be sure to visit the Enchanted Village. 16,000 square feet of a magical winter wonderland, the Enchanted Village is equipped with sparkling LED lights, an Indigenous visual art demonstration, a beautiful “Lights Around the World” display, holiday trees, a gingerbread village, a holiday market for unique, locally-made gifts and stocking stuffers, and illuminated swings and teeter-totters!

Merry Music

This year’s musical performances are fit for the season, and this diverse group of entertainers will be on stage throughout the day to get you in a holiday frame of mind. This year’s performers include Ludic, Yvonne Kush, RECKLESS: Ultimate Tribute to Bryan Adams, Top-Line Vocal Collective, Post-Modern Connection, JJ Lavallee, Ginalina & Holiday Friends, Á’a:líya, Taylor-Rae, Omar Khan and so many more!

Kid-Friendly

If you’ve got a tot who’s been itching to visit with Santa, you’re in luck. Not only will THE Kris Kringle be making a cameo, but he’ll also be making himself available for photos, what a Saint!  Santa photos will be taken on a unique stage set, which will enable the littles to be positioned at a safe distance, with a unique camera angle that will bring them together with Santa in the final photo. Warm-up with a hot chocolate, get creative with the Downtown Surrey BIA’s kids craft corner, and pick up a free holiday cookie kit.

Food Trucks

What event is complete without delicious treats to keep you warm? Snack on doughnuts, or sip a latte from the Insomniacs Coffee Co. truck. Delicious and traditional Mexican cuisine from Taco N Todo, hearty grilled cheese and poutine from Melt City, mouth-watering burgers from Burgerholic and salty-sweet popcorn from Kettle Corn, are among the Food Trucks to choose from, but who says you have to pick just one?
