Winter Festival: Skate for a Cause

What could be more “Canadian” than skating on an outdoor rink? Well lace up your skates and hit the ice for some good old-fashioned family fun in February at a “pop-up” outdoor public skating rink in Surrey. Over two weekends in February, the north parking lot at Guildford Town Centre will be transformed into a “winter wonderland” complete with skating rink, a life-sized snow globe and a delicious selection of food trucks.

If you have your own skates, admission to the synthetic-surface rink is free, but if you need skates you can rent them for $5.00 (cash only). All proceeds received for skate rentals will be donated to the Surrey Hospital Foundation to support their Children’s Health Centre campaign. Helmets are mandatory for kids 12 and under, and they recommend bringing your own, as there’s a limited supply available.

Pop into the life-sized snow globe for the ultimate Instagram moment, and with the food trucks on-site, you don’t even have to leave for dinner. Take a break, grab some grub and jump right back on the ice. Gooey macaroni and cheese from Reel Mac N’ Cheese, decadent lobster rolls from Salty’s Lobster Shack and gourmet hot dogs from Street Dogs will hit the spot. And, if it’s just a sweet treat you’re after, don’t miss the mini doughnuts and funnel cake.

See you on the ice!
