Winter Theatre

It’s time. Time for hot cocoa, mittens, maybe even a little bit of snow? While you may want to cuddle up at home, why not get out and see all the happenings in Surrey? Warm your toes and your heart with these fun performances, art shows and more.

From December 7th to 9th, enjoy the classic story of The Nutcracker at the Main Stage at Surrey Arts Centre (13750 88 Avenue) with the whole family. This production combines beautiful sets and extravagant costumes, with more than a hundred dancers! Experience Tchaikovsky’s classic score with its favourites like Waltz of the Flowers and Dance of the Mirlitons, with the illuminating magic of toy soldiers and sugar plum fairies. There won’t be a sad face in sight during this holiday spectacle.

It’s time to melt away that winter chill with The Bergmann Piano Duo on December 6th at Studio Theatre at the Surrey Arts Centre (13750 88 Avenue). Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann are International prize-winners for their exciting and entertaining performances. This Coffee Concert Series encourages you to share stories and insights with friends and family. The Bergmann Duo will also be playing with guitarist Daniel Bolsoy, and they’ll play the night away playing a range of composers, such as Joaquin Rodrigo, Boccherini and Vivaldi.

Running from January 9th to the 19th is Blind Date, the interactive show that includes a different member of the audience for every show! This show opens at the Main Stage at the Surrey Arts Centre (13750 88 Avenue), and is full of laughs and fun. Join Mimi as she goes on a blind date every night with a different audience member. The adult-only show includes clown, improv, theatre and social experiment to create an unforgettable evening.

For those not so interested in the theatrical, perhaps check out the Crescent Beach Photography Club’s Impressions exhibition running from the end of November all the way into the New Year. The exhibition is being held at the Surrey Art Gallery (13750 88 Ave), and patrons encourage everyone to stop by to view the club’s photo themes of animal habitats to memories of past experiences.

The art scene doesn’t stop in Surrey just because it’s gotten a little colder. Shake off those cobwebs and get out and see (and experience) all that Surrey is serving this season.
