Tree Lighting Festival

Tree Lighting Festival

For those that start blasting the holiday music in November, enjoy once-a-year cups of speciality coffee, decorating every available surface with lights and tinsel; this event was made for you.

Every year, Surrey hosts its own Tree Lighting Festival, with performers, holiday markets, amusement rides and more. In 2017, over 10,000 people attended the event to join in with the holiday festivities, including the lighting of the 60 foot Christmas tree by the Mayor and council members!

This event has some traction, not only in the city of Surrey, but nationally! The Surrey Tree Lighting Festival won the 2014 National Star Award for “Most Outstanding Event”. Of course, the great Special Events team organizes the event every year, in addition to many other amazing events like Party for the Planet, and even Surrey Canada Day!

At the Tree Lighting Festival, not only are there multiple local and multicultural acts, but Santa and Mrs. Claus makes an appearance! In addition to the performers, there’s hundreds of holiday activities to take part in with the whole family. Get some crafting done at the Surrey Art Gallery, watch some Ice Carving Demos, score some goals in road hockey, and write your letter to Santa.

Be sure to visit the Holiday Market, with tons of vendors and unique gifts that make perfect stocking stuffers, or visit booths set up by local businesses showing off their wares.

Of course, if you’re just there for the tree lighting itself, we don’t blame you. The tree stands at 60 feet, and will stay lit throughout the holiday season for everyone to view. It’s a city spectacle that lights up the city centre, and adds a little extra holiday cheer during the dark months of winter. Light up your holiday with the famous Surrey Tree Lighting Festival!
